I took Affinity Publisher for a test drive to see how it compares to InDesign and how it functions as a publishing program. Superficially, the differences between the two are minor, and it really comes down to which program you feel most comfortable using. ![]() In terms of usability, Affinity Publisher owes a great deal to InDesign in terms of functionality and interface. Publisher's competitive price will make it a serious competitor on price point with Adobe, which offers InDesign CC at a subscription price only, with the single app costing users $20.99 a month. Users aren't tied into a subscription model, unlike Adobe members. Should I Consider Switching From Adobe InDesign to Affinity Publisher?įor budget-conscious creatives, the main advantage of Affinity Publisher is that it's excellent value, retailing at just $49.99 for the single app download. Read my Affinity Publisher review to discover why Affinity is an InDesign alternative and get my verdict on which software to plump for. The lead developer of Publisher, Adam Whitehouse, has commented that Affinity Publisher for iPad is also in development, which will allow Publisher to reach a potentially broader audience than desktop users alone. Through technology called StudioLink, Publisher can be integrated with the other apps in the Affinity design suite, Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer, allowing users to seamlessly create and edit images before integrating them into Affinity Publisher layouts. Fans of Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer, decent and good-value alternatives to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, will find that Affinity Publisher makes a seamless and useful addition to their collection of Affinity apps. #AFFINITY PUBLISHER VS DESIGNER FULL VERSION#Serif released the full version of Affinity in June 2019 (it had previously only been available in beta format). This Affinity Publisher review is based on my experience of using version 1.8 of the Affinity software. We’ll weigh up the pros and cons of each software option, look at some of Affinity Publisher’s coolest features, and give our verdict on whether the Affinity design suite offers serious competition for Adobe’s Creative Cloud. If you’re considering trying out Affinity as an alternative to InDesign, consider this your ultimate Affinity Publisher guide. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ichinoi is invited to a comic convention but has trouble waiting in line due to her legs and often needs to sit down.Īnother moment which struck me was when Ichinoi was calculating how long it would take the manga-ka to finish the BL she was reading. I also hope that one day I will be a nerdy old lady like that, too, but what's so refreshing reading about this kind of thing is how age can affect your ability to enjoy such hobbies. I have a soft spot for elderly women trying new things like BL or video games, and then getting involved in the fandom or starting their own YouTube channels. For me, it's seriously heart-warming. However, one is a high school student and part-time bookseller who knows all the latest BL, whilst the other is an elderly widowed woman (Ichinoi) who's just getting into BL. BL:M is a story about two Boy's Love fans who form a friendship through their shared love of BL. I read a lot of manga throughout the year, but the stand out for me was BL: Metamorphosis. Best to go in with little knowledge and try it for yourself. However, it's an easy game to spoil so I won't say anymore about it. You heard it from me: You do not need to be a Vanillaware fan to play this game.Īnyway, I'm glad 13 Sentinels performed well for Vanillaware in the West and is continuing to get picked up by more and more players. The ending was also pleasant, being extremely hopeful for mankind (which was comforting in 2020) and, unlike so many games these days, didn't feel like corners had been cut.ġ3 Sentinels is the first Vanillaware game I've played (everyone seemed to assume I was a big fan of theirs because I kept raving about this), but now I want to check out their other titles. Everything is good.ġ3 Sentinels is an ambitious sci-fi story which is somewhat like a collection of every sci-fi plot you can think of, with so many twists and turns it feels like you're going deeper and deeper down a rabbit hole. I don't know where to start about why I like this game. The art, the music, the story, the characters. They're both joint firsts, I think, but 13 Sentinels made me cry and got me drawing fan art again, so perhaps it has the edge. I say "probably" because I was agonising for weeks whether it was this or Paradise Killer. Hopefully, with vaccines now being rolled out, we can start thinking about the future again.ġ3 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was probably my favourite game of the year. I try to remind myself every day just how lucky I am to be working at home doing what I love. I haven't seen my family or friends in person for 9 months now, but we've been playing games online and doing what we can to stay in touch. Everything has been so much harder in the last 9 months, and it's amazing simply surviving it. However, to combat this burn out, I hired some help, took staycations, and even took a trip out to the remote German countryside to escape the city. I took time off over Christmas to rest and relax, too, but it's hard to properly relax when friend's get sick, their parents die, governments continue to be incompetent etc etc. It doesn't help that everyone has been unable to travel most of 2020, as travel typically helps me recharge my creative energy. But this time, I have exhausted everything and I know I need a serious creative break after my next game is released. Done too much programming? Focus on writing. Previously, when I got tired of work, I would switch to something else Done too much art? Focus on programming. Once again, I took on too much work for myself alone and have had to act in several roles. I'll be doing that again here, although it's taken me a considerable amount of energy to write or do anything creative recently. I think everyone is happy to see the end it, even though 2021 may not prove to be any better.Īnyway, every new year, I typically write a post about what I enjoyed over the last year. I can't believe I've been doing this longer than any other job I've had, and I'm grateful I'm still able to do it :) However, it's been several months since I last updated you all on what I'm doing which I apologise for, though 2020 certainly was a year, huh? I thought 2019 was bad enough when several things went wrong for me, including my health nosediving into the unknown, but 2020 certainly took the biscuit. Happy New Year everyone! 6 years ago today, I started this adventure making my own indie games. ![]() ![]() ![]() Though the department places more officers on fixed posts when it notices a spike in crimes, Cline said it’s harder to stop offenses at “massive stations” such as the Jackson Red Line, which has multiple tunnels and platforms spread across one area. It is behind only the Roosevelt station in the South Loop, which had about 22 violent crimes, and the Blue Line’s Pulaski stop in East Garfield Park, which had about 19. Still, the Tribune was able to analyze this data to determine which stations were closest to the reported crimes.Īs of Nov, 23, there were about 14 violent crimes this year at the Jackson Red Line station, making the stop one of the most violent in Chicago. “This sort of thing is starting to become increasingly common, so when I see an incident, it doesn’t really register with me all that much,” Douglas said.Ĭhicago police do not specifically list which crimes occur at or near which stations, and while the department provides addresses and mapping coordinates, they are approximate. He said he sees petty crimes regularly on the CTA that “can easily escalate into violence with the wrong reactions.” The fight was the most violent Douglas has seen on the CTA, but he said it wasn’t shocking. No arrests have been made, and police have not released any video and photos of the attack or the suspect. The altercation turned violent, and one man tossed the other in front of an oncoming train, seriously injuring him, according to a police report. 27, Douglas was a witness to an argument between two men who didn’t seem to know each other at the Jackson Red Line station in the Loop. The rise in the crime rate came as no surprise to Dagan Douglas, 24, a South Side native who rides the Red Line nearly every day to work. Homicide cases had the highest percentage of arrests, with three of the four resulting in at least one arrest. Violent crimes reported on the rail system through September included at least 283 robberies, 53 aggravated cases of battery, 33 serious cases of assault, four homicides and two criminal sexual assaults. The arrest rate for violent crimes on the “L” through September was about 21.8%, an increase of about 3.2% from the same period last year. Cline said COVID-19 has complicated police efforts since jails aren’t holding as many people, and many of those committing crimes on the rail system are repeat offenders. The CTA has about 32,000 cameras on its network, including in every rail station, bus and train car.īut deterring those crimes from happening is another issue. 30, there were roughly 6 violent crimes and 9 nonviolent crimes per 1 million rides on the “L.” The nonviolent crime rate saw a slight uptick, but the violent crime rate has more than doubled from last year, when both types of crime on the CTA rail system reached their highest levels of the decade.Ĭline said there are seven dedicated detectives analyzing live footage of CTA properties, which has been a “game changer” in gathering better evidence and putting cases together. That means those left riding the system saw a jump in their odds of becoming a victim to a crime on the “L” or at CTA platforms and stations.įrom Jan. Ridership this year on the “L” system has been down 61% through September compared with the same period in 2019, according to the CTA. The rate of violent crime on CTA trains and platforms has more than doubled this year, even though the number of riders has dramatically dropped and Chicago police have stepped up patrols and surveillance, according to a Tribune analysis of police and CTA data. 23, the Roosevelt station in the South Loop had about 22 violent crimes this year. By framing the conflict between Merida and her mother as the central issue of the movie, Brave gives itself a premise to which most viewers can connect. #Disney brave 2 trailer free#It’s a classic setup to which most people can relate: The child wants to be free and control their own fate, while the parent is rooted in tradition and wants to keep the child in his or her proper place.
